Dwiggins Gift Shop and Standard Filling Station, south side of US Highway 36 between Macon and Bevier, September 20, 1978.  When this photograph was taken, the Missouri Highway Department had purchased the property and Dwiggins closing sale was being held.  The building on the far left is the first gift shop building Dwiggins purchased from Bill Rissler in 1959.  The large gift shop was built in 1962.  Originally located on this same property was Hi-Point Filling Station, which was opened by L.T. Steeley on August 11, 1927. Steeley sold Red Eagle Oil Company products that later included the Mobilgas line.  Hi-Point Filling Station was sold several times in the 1930s until Bill Rissler purchased it.  On the same property, Bill opened Rissler’s Market No. 1, a grocery store and eventually began selling a variety of yard art, pottery, fireworks and gifts.  Photo courtesy of Spencer Dwiggins.
